(Tuesday, 19 May 2009) Supporters of death row inmate Troy Davis rally at the State Capitol this evening; President Obama wants to improve gas mileage and emissions; an up-and-coming Atlanta rapper is killed in LA; the Atlanta creator of a famous burger wants to retire. Details on today's KISS News Now!

  • Atlanta police hope surveillance video helps find the shooter of a Frito Lay delivery man who was robbed in broad daylight Monday. Carson Mayes was delivering chips to the Subway on Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta, and was shot even though he gave the crook the money. He's expected to recover.

  • The latest attempt to spare the life of Georgia death row inmate Troy Davis culminates tonight at the State Capitol, where Amenesty International has organized a rally. Davis' lawyers are filing an appeal with the US Supreme Corut today, asking for a new hearing. He's convicted of the 1989 shooting of a Savannah cop, although most of the witnesses who fingered him at trial have said they were forced to lie.

  • A Paulding County jury took less than 90 minutes Monday to convict accused Silver Comet Trail killer Michael Ledford. Now his jury will decide whether the murderer of Jennifer Ewing will get life or death.

  • Up-and-coming Atlanta rapper Dolla has been killed at a California mall. Dolla and DJ Shabazz were waiting outside the Beverly Center near a valet stand when a gunman opened fire. Supposedly the two had been arguing earlier. The 21-year-old Dolla, whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, recently dropped a pair of singles with Akon--"Like This" and "She So Fine," and was in LA to do his first album. Los Angeles police arrested 23-year-old suspect Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia shortly afterward at the airport; he had a gun in his waistband.

  • The Post Office is laying off 25,000 people. The agency lost close to $3 billion last year and could lose twice that in 2009.

  • If you've never had a handmade World Famous Ghetto Burger by Miss Ann, better boogie over to Memorial Drive soon. Ann Price says she's ready to sell Ann's Snack Bar after 37 years making the cheeseburger which the Wall Street Journal named the best in America in 2007. She hopes to put the place on the market by the end of May.

  • Two Cherokee County special ed workers are charged with cruelty to children and false imprisonment involving two incidents last year. In one, an autistic boy was duct-taped to a chair; in the other, a blind girl was shoved under a teacher's desk and blocked in with a chair to keep her there. Special Ed teacher Lori Peavy and paraprofessional Nancy Cheek were reported by other teachers last week, when their coworkers found out that the victimized students were being reassigned to their classroom.

  • President Obama wants drivers to go farther on a gallon of gas. Today, he sets a 35.5 MPG standard, and sets the first federal emissions limits for cars and trucks. The new fuel and emission standards are expected to save billions of barrels of oil, yet cost consumers an extra $1,300 per vehicle by the time the plan is complete in 2016.

  • TV news: LL Cool J is set to star in a CBS spinoff of NCIS next season, and Fox is giving a new show to comedian Wanda Sykes, a late-night Saturday roundtable talk show about the news of the week. That one starts in November.

  • Variety is reporting that a new movie about Martin Luther King Jr is in the works--and that Steven Spielberg will direct it. The project reportedly has the OK from the King Center.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: mostly sunny, windy high around 71 Tuesday, lows 45-53 tonight. Wednesday, partly cloudy windy high of 75. Thursday, mostly to partly cloudy, breezy high of 76.
