(Monday, 1 June 2009) GM's filing for bankruptcy protection today; reports say Jennifer Hudson's loved ones threw her a baby shower Saturday; Kimora Lee Simmons' daughters now have a baby brother. Details on today's KISS News Now!

  • A bruised and battered General Motors files bankruptcy this morning--part of an Obama administration plan to shrink the company to a sustainable size. GM will close 11 plants and idle three others under the Chapter 11 filing. Taxpayers will get a 60% ownership stake in the company.

  • Two men are dead in a Sunday afternoon shootout in a Lithonia Park. DeKalb County police say it was apparently a grudge shooting: one of the men recognized someone inside an SUV, and started shooting; the man in the truck also had a gun, and returned fire. One of the gunshot victims was rushed to the hospital by a friend, but both the victims died. The names of the men, ages 37 and 42, haven't been released.

  • Her husband is arrested and charged with raping a coworker; now Christy Jansen of Snellville has filed for divorce--after nearly 25 years of marriage. 46-year-old David Jansen is accused of kidnapping a woman out jogging in Atlanta, tying her up and driving her to Tennessee--where he raped her. Jansen bonded out Friday.

  • A bench trial opens today in federal court for a former Georgia Tech student accused of conspiring with terrorists. 24-year-old Syed Ahmed is accused of videoed potential terrorism targets for Al-Qaeda; his video was found with an operative in London. Ahmed, who has been in solitary confinement for three years, wants to give his own closing arguments.

  • A doctor who provides abortions is gunned down while serving as an usher inside his own church in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. George Tiller was 67. Police detained a 51-year-old suspect, Scott Roeder, who is now jailed without bond. The women's clinic Tiller ran is one of three in the nation where abortions are performed after the 21st week of pregnancy. A protester shot Tiller in both arms in 1993, and his clinic was bombed in 1985.

  • He says folks like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich are free to say what they want, but Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama--the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will hold hearings on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor--won't endorse the remarks calling her "racist." Sessions says, "She's got the kind of background you would look for--almost an ideal mix of private practice, prosecution, trial judge and circuit judge...that's very strong."

  • This wasn't a runaway bride, but she ran, all right--straight into a burning home. Georgette Clemons was just leaving her wedding reception in Connecticut yesterday evening when she spotted smoke coming out of a house. She jumped from the car she was riding in and ran inside, pulling out a woman who was yelling about not wanting to leave her pets. As firefighters did their thing, putting out the fire and helping rescue the family, Clemons was nearby folding her blackened wedding dress.

  • Her reps keep denying it--but try telling that to Jennifer Hudson's family and friends, who reportedly threw her a baby shower over the weekend. Hudson's said to be seven months pregnant now; she and fiance David Otunga have not publicly announced their wedding date. Singer/actress Felicia Fields says called Saturday's event "a quiet gathering of friends and mostly family. They're really trying to keep it kind of quiet." As for whether the gifts were blue or pink, Fields says, "They don't know [the gender]. More yellow."

  • Speaking of babies...Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee have welcomed a baby boy, and her rep says both mommy and baby are doing fine. Baby Phat CEO Lee announced the birth Saturday on Twitter. In a previous update, the 34-year-old posted this photo of herself (right) at the hospital and then wrote, "Having contractions now! Ooo-wee! It's like WHOA!" Benin-born actor Hounsou has been nominated for two Academy Awards, including for his role in "Blood Diamond."

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: a code orange smog alert today, low humidity, and a sunny high of 90; lows 60-66 tonight.
