  • MARTA votes today on fare increases and service reductions in the face of big budget shortfalls. Fares could go up 25 cents this fall, upping the one-way fare to $2.00.

  • Today's the day we're likely to get the most detailed picture yet of what happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna the night before the Grammys. If you want to watch Rihanna testify today in a probable cause hearing on Brown's assault case--no dice. A judge is banning a TV broadcast if she's called to the stand, which would be the first time she has spoken publicly about the fight. The detectives who talked to her the night of the incident in February are expected to testify, so prosecutors may choose not to have the pop singer take the stand. The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence to take the case to trial. These pictures are of the two earlier this month at Game 4 of the NBA Finals. They were sitting on opposite ends of the same row.

  • The FDA gets more teeth to control tobacco products under a law President Obama will be signing today. They'll be able to reduce nicotine, ban candy flavorings and block labels such as "light." The president also today announces an agreement with the big drug companies to bring down drug prices for seniors.

  • A 26-year-old Barnesville mom is charged with child cruelty after leaving her twin infants in the car while she shopped at a Wal-Mart in Ellenwood. Police say the four-month-old boys were left in the car for up to 30 minutes Saturday night, when the heat index was in the upper 80s. Jenesia Williams was sent to jail when she came out of the store; cops who'd been called to the scene by another shopper who spotted the children were waiting for her. Williams had left the windows cracked, and the police used that to help force the door open and get the babies out. Doctors who checked them out at the hospital said they were fine.

  • Midtown Atlanta: Two more Georgia Tech students have been robbed at gunpoint--the latest in a series of holdups near campus. Another Tech student was robbed and shot earlier this year.

  • A 62-year-old Augusta man struck it big twice in the Georgia Lottery. Earl Fritz won the top prize of $777,777 in the instant game Super Lucky 7's. That dwarfed the $1,000 he won a week earlier in a different game.

  • A New Jersey judge today decides whether to put ex-NBA star Jayson Williams behind bars for covering up the shooting of a hired limo driver more than seven years ago. Prosecutors want Williams, 41, jailed because of recent reports of erratic behavior, including his arrest for assault in a North Carolina bar and an altercation with police in a New York City hotel room. Williams has been free on bail since the 2002 killing; he was convicted of a cover-up but his sentencing has been delayed until prosecutors retry him on the reckless manslaughter count.

  • A former Atlanta Police narcotics officer gets 18 months in federal prison for breaking into a home without a warrant. 45-year-old Wilbert Stallings (right) was a sergeant over the narcotics team which was involved in the Kathryn Johnston shooting. Sgt. Stallings' team was searching for drugs in one side of a duplex on Dill Avenue, and when they found nothing, he ordered them to break into the apartment next door--even though they didn't have a warrant for the neighbor's house. When that search found no evidence of illegal activity either, he told the team to pull the door shut and leave--saying the homeowner would "just think it was a break-in."

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: Monday, partly cloudy, hazy and humid today with a 30% chance of strong showers or thunderstorms this afternoon or evening; high 92, low 73.
