  • Latest News: Public Viewing for Michael Jackson is Scheduled
Michael Jackson's body will return to his Neverland Ranch on Thursday morning for a public viewing Friday, CNN has learned. A private memorial service is scheduled for Sunday. Also, a Jackson will, written in 2002, has been found, according to family lawyer Londell McMillan. It was not immediately clear whether Jackson's body would be interred at Neverland. full story

  • Coroners' investigators and cops Monday hauled off two big plastic bags of what they call "medical evidence" from the rental home where Michael Jackson lost consciousness. They want to know what kinds of prescriptions he may have been on before he died, and police say interviews and information they got over the weekend led them back to the house--even though they had cleared it Friday and let the family back in. Lawyers for Dr. Conrad Murray say the King of Pop's personal physician never prescribed him the drugs people are speculating about--painkillers Demerol and OxyContin, among them--and had no reason to think Jackson was abusing them. "Should he have asked, 'Hey Michael, I'm just wondering, do you take Demerol or OxyContin?' He had no reason to suspect that he had," attorney Ed Chernoff says. Chernoff also says the only drugs Murray prescribed in the two months he was with Jackson were for specific medical complaints. "Let's not rush to judgment here and say Michael Jackson was a drug addict. We don't know that." Murray hired him, he says, because "one of the most famous men in the world literally died in his arms."

  • Katherine Jackson has been granted temporary custody of Michael's three children, and limited control over some of her son's personal property which is now with an unnamed third party. She and Joe Jackson also filed papers seeking to become administrators of his estate.

  • Who should get custody of Michael Jackson's three children?
Joe and Katherine Jackson, the grandparents
Debbie Rowe, the biological mom of the two oldest kids
Janet Jackson—she's always said she wanted children
    Lisa-Marie Presley - Michael's first wife

  • Two or three Michael Jackson wills have turned up. The latest one, from 2002, could be submitted to a court as early as Thursday. It splits his estate among his mother Katherine, his three children and several charities. His father Joe is apparently left out of this will, according to a published report.

  • Joe Jackson spoke to reporters Monday outside the Jackson family compound in Encino, California. Among other topics, he said that the only reason he plugged his record label on the BET Awards red carpet was because he'd been asked what his future plans were.

Jackson said while some aspects of his son's funeral might be private, he couldn't imagine that services for the worldwide star would be completely shut off from the public. Arrangements are pending, he says, because they want results from a second autopsy first. Papa Joe, known as a tough stage dad, also says Michael's three children are "happy" and staying with the family, getting to play with other kids. What do you think of how Joe Jackson is handling the aftermath of his son's death? Leave your comments below.

  • Fans who bought tickets to Michael's final "This Is It" shows in London are being offered their choice of a refund by the concert promoter, or a souvenir. It's a commemorative ticket; the eight holographic designs were thought up by MJ before he died. The designs will soon be showcased on michaeljacksonlive.com.

  • The legendary Apollo Theater is planning a tribute today for the King of Pop, who first took the stage at the famed venue with his brothers when he was just nine years old. Thousands are expected to pay their respects at the theater, which planned to let them in 600 at a time to listen to his music, watch a video tribute and leave flowers and memorabilia. The salute is expected to begin with a eulogy by the Rev. Al Sharpton. A moment of silence is planned for 5:26 p.m., the time East Coast fans learned that Jackson had died. Outside the theater, fans could write messages on a wall outside on 125th Street in the center of Harlem.

  • Searchers are using thermal cameras, dogs and listening devices to comb through the rubble of the Centergy complex parking deck in midtown Atlanta which collapsed during Monday's lunch hour. There are still no reports of casualties; also no word when --or if-- owners will get their trapped vehicles back.

  • The Supreme Court goes on summer break without a ruling on the Troy Davis case--likely delaying any action on the death row inmate until fall. Monday, a petition with 60,000 signatures was presented to the new Chatham County DA, urging him to reopen the case.

Justices reversed a ruling by Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor that New Haven, CT improperly threw out firefighter promotion test results when minorities didn't do well on the test. The White House spokesman says he doesn't think the decision bears on Sotomayor's nomination in any way--and then blasted the five-member majority on the ruling, charging them with judicial activism--pointing out Sotomayor's ruling had held up past legal precedent.

  • The funeral for Farrah Fawcett is today; it will be a private one in Los Angeles. Her son, Redmond O'Neal, will be freed from jail long enough to attend, and allowed to wear civilian clothes. He's behind bars on drug charges.

  • Iraqis celebrate as U. S. combat forces withdraw from the nation's cities and pull back to military bases. They've declared it National Sovereignty Day. President Barack Obama has pledged to withdraw all combat troops by the end of August 2010.

  • A five-year-old boy is rescued from the Indian Ocean after the crash of an Airbus 310 off the eastern coast of Africa with 153 aboard. The Yemeni passenger jet flying from France went down about nine miles off the coast as it was trying to land in heavy winds.

What others are saying

  • Joe Jackson
Joe Jackson is disgusting. An abusive lunatic that NONE of these three young children should be around.
  • Joe Jackson Criticism
People tend to want to criticize Joe Jackson from being left out of a will to promoting his new reocrd label on the Red Carpet. People grieve different ways and it is not to say that he is not in grief. Whatever naysayers want to say about Papa Joe, it is his hard drive and push that provided Michael with his strict work ethics. He is much like the tenacious efforts of Richard Williams (Venus and Serena) and Earl Williams (Tiger). I don't condone child abuse (allegations) but I applaud Joe Jackson for the gift he gave to the world, first the Jackson Five and especially the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
