(Tuesday, 2 June 2009) A maker of ATMs and cash registers becomes the 14th Fortune 500 company to put its HQ in metro Atlanta; police say the woman found tied up in a Tennessee cabin has "credibility" issues; the U. S. Justice Department says Georgia's voter system to flag non-citizens is not accurate or reliable. More info is on today's KISS News Now!
  • Another Fortune 500 company is moving to metro Atlanta. National Cash Register is the world's largest maker of cash registers, airport check-in kiosks and ATMs. The relocation from Ohio will bring 1,250 new jobs to Duluth, near the company's existing office in Gwinnett County, and another 880 to a manufacturing plant in Macon. The jobs at the corporate headquarters on Satellite Boulevard will pay an average of $70,000.

  • New questions surround the case of a Snellville man accused of kidnapping a lady jogger in Atlanta, then tying her up and raping her in a remote cabin in Tennessee. Police admit the 24-year-old victim has "credibility issues," because she's filed false police reports twice before, in 2004 and 2005, claiming sexual assault. She's on probation after pleading guilty to one count from Henry County. Accused suspect David Jansen has said their sex was consensual--and that the woman was turned on by bondage.

  • The Justice Department rips the voter identification system by Secretary of State Karen Handel. The feds say the system, which she contends is meant to filter non-citizens and keep them from voting, actually incorrectly flagged thousands of Georgia citizens who are eligible to vote. Furthermore, they say, those flagged were overwhelmingly black, Asian or Hispanic. The system used Social Security numbers and driver's license data to check whether prospective voters are citizens, and was the subject of a court challenge before the November elections.

  • Georgia's Department of Drivers' Services will now be closed on Mondays. The division will open offices earlier Tuesday through Friday and offer service at some bureaus on Saturdays. They say they'll actually be adding 100 more hours of service a week.

  • A MARTA train conducter's been suspended after a rider snaps a pic of him texting on the job. MARTA drivers are allowed to carry their cell phones--but must keep them turned off while working.

  • Ronald McDonald thinks you deserve a break today. Well, tomorrow. Between 4:00 and 6:00 Wednesday afternoon, McDonald's will pay the 50 cent toll for drivers on Georgia 400--and give you a coupon to get one FREE small hot McCafe coffee, or a medium iced coffee.

  • In KISS news about your kid's health: an antidepressant commonly prescribed to austic children to control their repetitive behavior works no better than a sugar pill. The National Institutes of Health study finds children didn't really do better on Celexa--and were more likely to have side effects like insomnia.

  • Gwinnett County deputies looking to serve a warrant instead find a massive marijuana "grow house" near Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Authorities say some $3 million worth of pot plants were being grown inside the home on Jennings Way. There were approximately 200 plants set up with grow lights.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: partly sunny, high near 90; lows 63-67 tonight. Wednesday, partly cloudy high of 87. Thursday, partly to mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of thunderstorms and a high of 80.
