(Friday, 10 July 2009) Black and Hispanic kids are booted from a Pennsylvania swim club after white members express discomfort; thousands pay their last respects to Steve McNair in Nashville. Get a glance inside the memorial service on today's KISS News Now!

  • Donte Stallworth is out of jail. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver served 24 days of a 30-day sentence after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter. He is suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

  • A swim club outside Philadelphia insists race isn't the reason it canceled the summer membership of a day camp which serves mostly black and Hispanic children, but Creative Steps camp attendee 14-year-old Bymir Baylor says he knows at least one member at Valley Club was talking about them.

"I heard this lady. She was like, "Uh, what are all these black kids doing here? I'm scared they might do something to my child,'" said Baylor.

The Creative Steps camp had paid $1,900 for 65 campers to use the club's pool each Monday. The cash was refunded. Valley Club's director told a TV station that letting minority kids in the pool "changed the complexion" of the club. Senator Arlen Specter called for the quick reinstatement of the day camp's contract and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission said it is planning an investigation. Specter also wrote a letter to club president John Duesler and released it to the media Thursday, Specter asking Duesler for more details about his side of the story. "I think you would agree that there is no place for racism in America today," the senator said.

  • At her first public appearance since her husband's death, Mechelle McNair was praised by a bishop for enduring such hardship. It was at Thursday's Nashville memorial for Steve McNair, who was murdered by his mistress. Friends, family and thousands of fans of the ex-Titans quarterback gathered to pay their last respects for the married father of four. The pastor at the funeral agrees McNair was "imperfect,'' but he urged the gathering not to judge. McNair was shot to death Saturday by his young girlfriend, who then killed herself. The 36-year-old's funeral is Saturday at 11:00 at the Reed Green Colisuem on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

  • Roland Burris will announce he's not running for a full term in the U. S. Senate come 2010. He's never gotten real support at home or in the Senate after his controversial appointment by ousted Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, and has raised virtually no money to finance a campaign run.

  • Gwinnett County Police search for the man suspected of raping a party guest at the home of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas in Buford. Police say during the party, the woman in her 20s got tired and went to a bedroom to sleep, and awoke to find a man sexually assaulting her. Cops say Douglas was not involved. The victim managed to get away and call 911 on her cell phone, and the man left the party.

  • Los Angeles police are following the drug trail as they investigate Michael Jackson's death. Toxicology results will give them an idea of what they're dealing with--a possible homicide, or an accidental overdose, according to the chief. They've subpoenaed records from Jackson doctors; CNN reports his security guards routinely supplied him with prescriptions bought under their names.

  • Say, say, say...somebody's setting the record straight after Michael Jackson's death. Paul McCartney says not only did he not expect Jackson to leave him the Beatles catalog in his will, he's not upset that he didn't. McCartney blogged that he and Jackson "never really fell out" after the King of Pop bought the Beatles song catalog in 1985, but that they may have "drifted apart."

  • Some teens apparently thought they could beat an Amtrak train in Michigan. They ignored the flashing lights and tried to get around the crossing gate--and all five were killed when the train smashed their car, pushing it a mile down the tracks.

  • Four employees of a historically black cemetery outside Chicago now face felony charges for allegedly scheming to cut costs and make more money by moving old bodies into mass graves or double-stacked ones, and reselling the plots. Among those buried at Burr Oak are blues singer Dinah Washington and lynching victim Emmett Till.

  • Georgia redesigns its drivers' licenses in an effort to make them more secure and less vulnerable to counterfeiting. The new cards debut this fall for renewals and for new licenses, and include three photos, a laser-engraved signature and barcodes. Licenses for drivers under 21 will be printed in a vertical format instead of the normal horizontal layout.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: Friday-Sunday, partly sunny and highs in the mid- to upper 80s.
