Mother-In-Law Indicted For Murder; Murder Suspect Ordered To Name Names; Do All Reverends Look Alike? Jackson Intro'd As Sharpton (VIDEO)
- The sole suspect in custody for the January murder of a Grant Park bartender has been ordered to name names. This week a judge told 17-year-old Jonathan Redding to tell a grand jury tomorrow who was with him on the night John Henderson was killed at the Standard Food & Spirits. He's been given immunity as an incentive, but that's no guarantee he'll cough up any names. The agreement just means prosecutors wouldn't use this testimony against him, but he's still facing several life sentences in connection with the crime. Prosecutors say Redding, a member of the 30 Deep gang, was among several other teens involved in the Standard robbery and killing.
- Six months after a young mother was gunned down outside a Snellville Target, her mother-in-law has been charged with the murder. Police say they "absolutely know" Johanna Hayes killed her daughter-in-law, Heather Strube, as Strube's young son witnessed the crime after a custody swap. Police say the motive is likely that Strube had been awarded custody in her divorce from her husband Steven--and that might've prompted Hayes to take action. Steven Strube hasn't been charged, but police haven't ruled him out as having knowledge of the crime.
- A doctor accused of punching a woman in the face during a fit of road rage was back in Sandy Springs Municipal Court Wednesday. Police say Dr. Daniel McBrayer and a relative e-mailed and called the victim and her husband to apologize--but in doing so, he violated his bond. He's had to cough up a bigger bond; his case is bound for state court.
- Some parents are upset about a proposal which could shorten the Fulton County school year. The school board votes tonight on whether to cut three school days a year, and instead lengthen each school day by 10 minutes. They say it could save over $1.1 million a year, but some parents say cutting out days could jeopardize how well their kids prepare for the CRCT standardized exams. The board meets at Dunwoody Springs Charter Elementary School this evening.
- Annual fees for credit cards are a rarity today, but more cardholders may soon have to decide between paying them or getting rid of their cards. Consumer expert Clark Howard notes Bank of America has announced it's "testing" annual fees of $29 to $99, and Citigroup has also announced it will be charging new annual fees.
- Authorities say the body found in a south Georgia landfill has been tentatively identified--through clothing and a birthmark--as 7-year-old Somer Thompson, a north Florida girl who disappeared walking home from school. The partially-covered body was found under 100 tons of trash after investigators followed garbage trucks leaving the neighborhood where she'd disappeared Monday.
- She claimed she was tortured in a West Virginia trailer for days, but now the black woman who said she was gang-raped by whites in 2007 has told police it was all a lie. Megan Williams said she was stabbed, beaten, sexually assaulted and forced to eat feces while one of the men shouted racial slurs at her. Her attorney now says she fabricated the story to get back at her boyfriend. Rev. Al Sharpton says he gave this woman some of his own money to help her--and now is calling on authorities to find out if anyone was wrongfully convicted. Seven suspects confessed and pled guilty & all but one went to prison. Prosecutors, however, say they stand by Megan Williams' original story.
- Speaking of Reverend Al: he was not on MSNBC with Contessa Brewer yesterday, although for a moment it seemed she thought so.

- Quiet, nice neighborhoods in Gwinnett County: Somehow it's no longer surprising that such a backdrop can be home not only to law-abiding families with kids, but is often home to members of Mexican drug cartels. Gwinnett, Atlanta and DEA authorities today reveal the drug and cash results of major meth lab raids on houses on La Maison Drive in Lawrenceville, and Ives Way in Lilburn. Neighbors say they didn't suspect a thing.
- The NTSB has joined the investigation into why a Delta jet landed this week on a taxiway at Hartsfield Jackson. The flight from Rio landed Monday on a taxiway that ran parallel to the runway it had been assigned. None of the 182 passengers or 11 crew was hurt. Those pilots have been relieved of duty while the probe continues.
- The Southeastern Conference has suspended officials from last weekend's Arkansas-Florida game after the crew was involved in its second controversial call of the year. The crew which called a bad unsportsmanlike conduct call in an LSU/Georgia game also called a faulty personal foul on an Arkansas player against the Gators last Saturday.
- The Philadelphia Phillies are heading to their second straight World Series, after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4 in Game 5 of the NLCS Wednesday night. So far the Yankees lead the Angels 3-1 in the ALCS, and their game 5 is tonight in L. A.
- Republican Senator Orrin Hatch has sent a letter to President Obama asking him to launch a Justice Department investigation into college football's Bowl Championship Series over antitrust laws with some conferences getting automatic bids to participate in top-tier bowls while others don't. Hatch's undefeated home state school, the University of Utah, was passed up last year.
