  • An Army cook and single mom in Savannah may face criminal charges after she skipped her deployment flight to Afghanistan because, she said, no one was available to care for her infant son while she was overseas. The Army requires soldiers to submit a care plan for dependent children before they deploy to a combat zone, and 21-year-old Alexis Hutchinson had one. But Hutchinson says when her own mother in California decided she couldn't care for the 10-month-old boy for an entire year because she's already taking care of three sick relatives, there was nowhere else to turn. She's confined to Hunter Army Airfield right now as the post investigates her claims that her superiors told her to deploy and put the boy in foster care.

  • A newly-released 911 tape reveals Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson took sleeping pills in his failed suicide attempt November 8; he then called his mother to tell her he loved her. She was the one who dialed 911. Richardson says he plummeted into a 2.5 year depression after his divorce, but that since his attempt to take his own life, he is getting help.

  • A tearful father mourns his daughter's death in North Carolina. The body of five-year-old Shaniya Davis was found dumped in some woods about 30 miles away from where she disappeared in Fayetteville; at a vigil Monday, Bradley Lockhart had tears flowing down his face as he prayed for the little girl. Lockhart had raised Shaniya most of her life after fathering her during what he said was a one night stand, but recently given her to her mother because the woman had gotten a job and had been getting her life together. Hundreds of volunteers had joined the search for the child, who was last seen on a surveillance video being carried into a motel by a man. Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, is now jailed in her kidnapping. Shaniya's mother, 25-year-old Antoinette Davis, is charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse. Police say she offered up Shaniya for sex.

  • Costco has stopped stocking Coca-Cola. The warehouse giant says the soft drink giant isn't giving the competitve prices its customers deserve. Negotiations between the two are ongoing.

  • Big Tobacco has found a loophole allowing it to avoid hundreds of millions in new taxes it was going to have to pay on roll-your-own cigarette tobacco. The companies have decided to repackage it as "pipe tobacco" so they don't have to pay increased taxes. The tax money was to help pay for President Barack Obama's child health law.

  • Janet Jackson blames Dr. Conrad Murray for Michael's death. Appearing on ABC with Robin Roberts this week, Janet says Murray should have his license yanked because he was the one who gave her brother the anesthetic that killed him.

  • Sarah Palin's book "Going Rogue" hits bookstore shelves today, and customers are divided on whether to buy. One man questioned by a reporter called her a washed-up ditz; a second said she was interesting. Palin dances around her political plans during interviews this week with Oprah and with Barbara Walters, but a Washington Post/ABC News poll finds 53% would not vote for her for President in 2012.

  • KISS news about your health: a government panel says most women should wait until age 50 to start getting regular mammograms, because earlier ones are causing too many false positives and unneeded biopsies. That flies in the face of the American Cancer Society's advice to start them at 40. The government task force also says breast self-exams don't do any good, and that women shouldn't be taught to do them. Women diagnosed at a young age with breast cancer are more than skeptical about the task force's recommendation, and the ACS says it will continue to back its longstanding policy.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: scattered light showers, cloudy, with a high around 63.
