  • A nationwide computer glitch is grounding departing flights at Hartsfield-Jackson and other airports this morning. The system that pilots use to file their flight plans isn't working--meaning flights are landing, but practically no one's leaving. An FAA spokeswoman doesn't know how many flights are affected, or when the problem will be resolved. For now, pilots are filing flight plans manually through an office in Salt Lake City.

  • Georgia's biggest court system is warning that a 2010 Fulton County proposal cutting $53 million from the judicial budget could force them to shut down the courthouse, jeopardize death penalty cases and slash as many as 1,000 jobs. District Attorney Paul Howard calls it a state of emergency for the courts. The county commission chair says it's not a crisis, but a matter of tightening their belts.

  • A federal judge in Lousiana rules the massive flooding of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina was not a natural disaster, but a man-made one. The US Army Corps of Engineers is blamed for not properly maintaining a navigation channel. Seven residents who sued will now get $720,000--and this opens up the government to billions of dollars in claims.

  • A DeKalb County murder suspect free on house arrest has cut off her ankle monitor and disappeared--and authorities weren't notified by the monitoring company until the following day. 26-year-old Emma Grant is charged in the killing of a Stone Mountain woman last year. Two other metro murder suspects have done the same thing this year; ex-DeKalb deputy Derrick Yancey got all the way to Belize before he was recaptured.

  • The people who labeled fettucine alfredo a "heart attack on a plate" are setting their sights on movie popcorn. The Center for Science in the Public Interest says a medium popcorn and medium soda combo at a national theater chain is the equivalent of eating three McDonald's Quarter Pounders with 12 pats of butter. The CSPI says that is a day's worth of calories and three days' worth of saturated fat.

  • The country may be climbing out of recession, but is our state? Georgia lost more jobs in October; the state unemployment rate edged up a tenth of a percent to 10.2. Some state lawmakers think playing the ponies could be a way to raise revenue. State Representative Harry Geisinger of Roswell says allowing horse racing in Georgia would create many jobs as well as new income. The state constitution would have to be changed to allow race betting.

  • It wasn't just flood-damaged equipment that shut down the Atlanta Kellogg bakery; the plant was closed through much of September and October after state agriculture officials found listeria in an Eggo sample. Kellogg recalled 4,500 cases of Eggos and sanitized the plant; they were just about to reopen before the flood even hit.

  • A city councilwoman in Columbus is found guilty--of serving up mimosas. Judy Wilkinson was arrested at her bridal shop because she had champagne on hand for shoppers to mix with their OJ if they wanted to. An undercover cop charged her with serving alcohol without a license; she's appealing.

  • The attorney for an Islamic center in Lilburn plans to sue the City Council after the group voted down a rezoning proposal to allow it to build a 20,000 square foot mosque, gym and cemetery. Opponents denied racism or religious bias prompted the no vote, but mosque attorney Doug Dillard contends it's unlawful that the Muslim congregation isn't allowed to expand as other churches in the area are.

  • The Post Office is dropping its program to write back the children who write Santa care of the North Pole, Alaska. Volunteers have been responding to the letters since 1954, but the USPS is worried about kids' safety and privacy after a postal worker in Maryland recognized a Project Santa volunteer as a registered sex offender. The USPS no longer wants volunteers to have access to kids' names and addresses.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: sunny and cool, high of 63.
