  • Thursday's wet snow showers are re-freezing many of the roads in metro Atlanta this morning, leaving dangerous ice from driveways to the interstates. Dozens of schools, daycares, and government offices are taking a snow day, delaying openings, or having just certain employees to report. The DOT is racing to keep up with the re-freezing roads, bringing salt, sand, gravel to combat the ice.

Some of the roads are simply treacherous and have been since last night, when a 50-year-old Acworth woman lost control of her vehicle on icy Priest Road at North Holt Road in Cherokee County--and slammed into a tree. She was killed.

This morning, there was a 29-car pileup on I-285 West, shutting down all lanes at exit 61 near the airport. Many of those drivers were employees headed to Hartsfield-Jackson for work this morning. Three people were injured in that icy interstate crash; a MARTA bus came by to take the workers to the airport.

  • Prosecutors are reportedly seeking to indict Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, for involuntary manslaughter. A source tells the Associated Press that the district attorney's office in Los Angeles will take the case to a grand jury and prosecute Murray on a theory of "gross negligence." First, the source says, the LAPD will go through the formality of presenting the case to the D. A. Both agencies, the DEA and the California Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement have all been working on the investigation since Jackson died in June. He was under Murray's care as he prepared for his 50-show "This Is It" London concerts, and went into cardiac arrest at a rental home in California. Murray has admitted administering propofol, a surgery sedative, to Jackson to help him sleep, but insists he didn't give the superstar anything that should've killed him.

  • A teen thief caught on surveillance video breaking into a Grant Park couple's home has surrendered to police. Police say 17-year-old Dequan Robbs and three accomplices kicked in the home's door last August, threw things at the couple's dog, and stole a laptop. The whole thing was caught on tape and streamed on YouTube. Dan and Alyssa Kopp helped catch another burglar with video back in 2008.

  • A 17-year-old is charged with last weekend's bow & arrow attack on a horse in Fayette County. Jeremy Ryan Richardson is accused of shooting the 8-year-old mare four times, including in the face and neck. The horse is slowly recovering, and her owner says Richardson should be put not in the jail--but under it.

  • A 23-year-old Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up a packed Northwest jet on Christmas Day will make his first court appearance today in Detroit. Umar Abdulmutallab, who was tackled by a passenger as flames shot from his clothes, is indicted on six charges.

President Obama is making changes and talking tough in the wake of the botched attack. He plans to put more air marshals on planes, and has announced about a dozen changes designed to fix the security problems that allowed Abdulmutallab to slip through.

  • Alabama tops Texas 37-21 in the BCS National Championship game. The Crimson Tide brings home its first national title since 1992.

  • So many people are talking about Mariah Carey's funny acceptance speech at a Palm Springs awards show that we wanted to post it again for you. Carey was asked about it, and she explained that the ceremony in California had been "a party atmosphere" and she'd gotten tipsy drinking champagne on an empty stomach. Besides, Carey notes, she does like to have fun and does have a sense of humor and hopes fans can appreciate that she, as she put it, isn't always like the person singing "Hero.''

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: Friday, windy and a high averaging 29; low tonight, 17. Saturday, breezy highs 28-33. Sunday, sunny and breezy with a high of 33. Monday, mostly sunny and a high around 41.
