| 'pieces Of April' Gets Early Notice Pieces Of April won't be hitting theaters for almost two months, but it's already getting buzz in the movie industry. The film has what must be one of the tiniest budgets of the year -- less than one million dollars -- and was shot in just over two weeks in New York City. The bargain-basement flick stars former Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes as an urban party-chick who makes the ill-fated decision to invite her entire family -- that's Mom, Dad, Grandma, and two siblings -- to come up from Nowheresville, Pennsylvania, for Thanksgiving dinner at her tiny downtown apartment. Pieces Of April was screened for a VIP crowd in New York's Hamptons vacation area over the weekend and rumor has it that the film could be Oscar-worthy. Pieces Of April opens in New York and Los Angeles on October 17th, with a wide release to follow. Katie Holmes -- who last starred in 2002's Abandon -- tells us that her six years on Dawson's Creek gave her her the confidence to break onto the big screen: "It makes it a lot easier. I mean, going in on auditions, doing other jobs, there's just such a confidence that you have because, 'Well, at least I can hit my mark,' and I know when it's not right and I know myself in a situation, and I know when I'm psyching myself out, and so there's a confidence that has come along with the experience of acting every day for the past six years." from LAUNCH media More entertainment headlines | |
